Social media could tip the US presidential election results. It’s a bold statement but it’s true. CNN’s Head of Social Media Samantha Barry took to the stage to discuss how CNN told the story of the Democratic Debate on social.

“CNN has been disrupting the news industry since its inception”, she said. And they show no signs of slowing down in that regard, not when they’re bringing the VR experience and cinemagraphs to the Democratic Debate.

Their Democratic Debate coverage on social “turned a two hour debate into a two day trending conversation on social”.

#DemDebate got people talking. From the ‘campaign camper’ that travelled around the US videoing the public’s questions to the candidates to the Snapchat special edition where CNN targeted mobile millennials.

On CNN’s social strategy, Samantha said: “we’re continuously trying to innovate in how we tell stories”.

We’ve no doubt that CNN will continue to surprise us with their social storytelling in the future.
