4 weeks out from Web Summit, and today we’re focusing on Sport Summit, and some great sports speakers taking to the stage. The role of tech in sport is becoming increasingly visible, and below are individuals that have benefited from this – from Formula E, to Ice Hockey, from Soccer, to Surfing. Who are they? Lets take a look:
Richard Arnold – Group Managing Director at Manchester United
Richard Arnold is the Group Managing Director of Manchester United, one of the largest sport franchises in the world, he is also a Director of the company. Richard is responsible for all the commercial and operational aspects of the club. In his previous role as Commercial Director, Richard managed the growth of the company’s sponsorship business, retail, merchandising, new media and mobile business. In 2011 he was nominated for SportBusiness International’s Sports Innovator of the year list.
Anastasia Ashley – Professional Surfer
Anastasia was swimming by age 2, body boarding by age 4 and surfing by age 6. She started competing at the young age of 7, where she was a prodigy and went on to win over 200 amateur events, including the NSSA National championships at age 16, and then turned full time professional. Anastasia’s talent as a surfer and spokesperson has pushed her into the mainstream media being featured in on television on programs such as MTV, FX, ESPN, Access Hollywood, and NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly. As well as on media outlets such as Shape, Self, Huffington Post, and GQ.
Henk Ten Cate – Former Chelsea, Ajax and Barcelona Assistant Manager
Henk Ten Cate is a former professional player and Dutch football manager who has 25 years of coaching experience. During his career as manager, he coached many clubs such as Ajax and Panathinaikos. He spent years as an assistant coach for clubs such as Chelsea and Barcelona – where next to Frank Rijkaard they guided the team to a Champions League Trophy and a La Liga title.
Bret Hedican – Stanley Cup Winner with Carolina Hurricanes, 2 time US olympian
Bret Michael Hedican is an American former professional ice hockey player, a Stanley Cup champion, and a two-time US Olympian. In 2014, Hedican partnered with another former Vancouver Canuck, Paul Reinhart, investing over $1 million in a sports team management start-up, RosterBot, based in Vancouver.
Alejandro Agag – CEO of Formula E
Alejandro Agag is CEO of Formula E Holdings – a new FIA backed global motor racing Championship using cars powered solely by electricity, launched in September 2014. In 2012, Agag together with his business partner Enrique Bañuelos, a London-based real estate entrepreneur, created Formula E Holdings Ltd. After a period of negotiation, the company signed an agreement with the FIA to exclusively promote the new FIA Formula E Championship featuring racing cars powered solely by electricity.
