‘Make a Mascot’ Competition, in association with the masterminds behind Candy Crush

It’s competition time! Today we’re delighted to launch our ‘Make a Mascot’ competition in association with King, the masterminds behind internet sensations Candy Crush.

People, ideas and creativity are at the heart of everything that is good about Web Summit, and we’re looking to bring this creativity to life with our Make a Mascot competition. So what does it entail? Lets find out:

What is ‘Make a Mascot?’

‘Make a Mascot’ in association with King is a competition inviting anyone 18+ to submit a Mascot entry to mascot@websummit.net. All mascots will be put before our judges, with the Top 5 then facing off in a crowdsourced Facebook voting competition. The winning mascot will be 3D printed once and displayed in an area of Web Summit in November. The winning maker will get 2 free tickets to the event, as well as a Jawbone Up.

What kind of mascot?

Well we love to see people being creative, so we are leaving it up to you to come up with an idea. If you’re looking for a pointer in a given direction – check out the colours we use on our website, check out the themes at Web Summit and be as creative as possible. We have an open mind and are looking forward to some great entries, different entries and awesome entries.

How do I submit my entry?

To be in with a chance to win, email your mascot entry to mascot@websummit.net using the subject line: {Name’s} Make a Mascot Entry. It must be in one of the following formats: jpeg, png, tiff, gif, pdf.


So when does it all kick off? Well here are some of the key dates and times – so you can be sure you don’t miss out:

October 2nd: Competition Begins at 10am GMT
October 9th: Competition Ends at 4pm GMT
October 10th: Top 5 Mascot Designs Chosen by Judges, Creators Informed
October 13th: Public Voting Begins at 10am GMT
October 17th: Public Voting Ends at 5pm GMT
October 21st: Winner Announced at 11:30pm GMT


We’ve teamed up with our great partners King to put together a really exciting group of judges.

Niklas Malmqvist – Global Director of Art at King

Niklas is a veteran game artist that has grown up with pencil, brush or whatever artistic tool he could get his hands on. He has over 25 years experience as an artists and has pretty much been working in the game industry for most of his professional life.

Natalie Mellin – Employer Brand at King

Natalie has over 10 years experience as a creative professional with strong experience working in Marketing and Employer Branding. She is a hobby artist at heart who has explored everything from drawing, dancing to jewellery design. At work she will let the experts stand for all the pencil action while she runs King’s branding projects.

Amy West – Design Guru at Web Summit

Amy loves Michael Bublé… Oh and she is also a key part of our awesome design team here at Web Summit. Raised in Sligo in the West of Ireland and reared in the Institute of Art, Design & Technology, Amy likes Peter Blake, Alan Fletcher, typography, playing the church organ and brilliant ideas!

Aaron Devine – Marketing Maestro at Web Summit

An integral part of Team Marketing at Web Summit and a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Aaron is the former Editor and Creative Director of the award-winning TN2 Magazine. He’s into all things creative, from craft beer to industrial design, and thinks everyone should give Comic Sans a chance.
