Rarely a week goes by without a genuine, bona fide rockstar addition to our speakers list. This week is no different. Take a look at the people joining us in Dublin for Web Summit.
Yancey Strickler – CEO & Co-Founder Kickstarter
Yancey founded crowd-funding site Kickstarter with Perry Chen and Charles Adler in 2009, having originally worked as eMusic’s editor-in-chief. In 2014, Kickstarter helped over 20,000 films, albums, books, and other creative projects receive funding. Bret Easton Ellis, Kristen Bell and Whoopi Goldberg have all used the site to fund projects. Yancey’s Kickstarter page shows projects he has contributed to, including projects from old college friends and a documentary on musician John Fahey.
David Heinemeier Hansson – CEO & Founder Basecamp
David is the the creator of Ruby on Rails, has completed the 24 Hours of Le Mans race four times, and was the Google O’Reilly Open Source Award winner for Best Hacker in 2005. He’s also the CEO and Founder of Basecamp – a web-based project management tool staffed by a self-described collection of “tinkerers, writers, speakers, bikers, engineers.” Founded in 1999 and used by more than 15 million people, Basecamp is considered one of the world’s top project management tools.
Nico Sell – CEO & Co-Founder Wickr
According to Nico, your identity can be stolen with just 10 data points. This in mind, Nico launched Wickr – a “self-destructing, secure, private, anonymous” messaging service – in 2012. To prove just how watertight the app is, she’s offered a $100,000 reward to anyone who can find a vulnerability in it.
Nico describes herself as a venture catalyst involved in 20 successful companies, and Wickr itself has raised $39 million in funding, most recently a $30M Series B in 2014.
