Introducing 2015’s best startups: It’s our PITCH Powered by Audi winners

The networking continues at Night Summit. Let our app help you.

We think we’ve found 2015’s best startup. From 200 startups in the group stages, to 40 in the semi-finals, to six in the grand final, we’ve finally named the two winners of PITCH Powered by Audi.

After a three-minute pitch followed by a one-minute Q&A with our panel of judges, we now have two winners – one ALPHA and one BETA for PITCH.

Our ALPHA winner

Connecterra making their pitch.

Connecterra took the prize in our ALPHA category. They like to say that they’re the ‘Fitbit for cows’. This Amsterdam-based startup’s product can analyse real-time movement data of cattle to help improve farm productivity.

They help farmers get more milk from fewer cows.

Their Product Designer Timo de Winter couldn’t get over their win:

How confident were you ahead of the final?

I didn’t expect it, simply because we don’t have a consumer-facing product. In order to really understand its potential you have to really understand what it does. You need knowledge of the dairy industry.

Who was your favourite other PITCH startup?

I thought Fatmap would win. They gave a very slick presentation with beautiful slides. They’re a consumer-facing product, too: people can understand exactly what they do.

The man who made their PITCH, , was similarly surprised with their success:

How confident were you ahead of the final?

I think that Connecterra will have big impact on real-world problems that can be solved with technology but came with an open mind to the pitch. Winning pitch was  an endorsement of this vision.

It’s just such a rush. The calibre of startups we were competing with was incredible.

To win is just so humbling.

What does winning PITCH mean to Connecteraa?

We’re raising our first round of $2.1 million now. This will help us talk to investors; it gets us global attention. This has given us a real platform.

How did it feel pitching on Web Summit Centre Stage?

It was like being on Warp Drive (Star Trek reference). It was a little slow at start and then it picked up and just flew by.

Who was your favourite other PITCH startup?

Bugwolf. They were kind of cool. I also thought that Neuroelectrics would be a a very strong contender.

Bizimply had a busy day in the RDS today. Not only were they named winners of our ESB Spark of Genius Award – the prize for Ireland’s best startup – they took top honours in the BETA PITCH category, too.

Bizimply is a cloud-based software-as-a-service business that provides workforce management software to businesses with hourly paid employees.

It’s been said they’re “changing the way restaurants and businesses are managed“.

Bizimply was founded in 2012 by Gerard FordeMikey Cannon and Norman Hewson.

Watch out for them – they’re going places. They’ve just expanded into Boston and expect to double their workforce this year.
