Web Summit is not only based in Ireland, but we are also keen to promote the talent and creativity of our native land, and there is plenty of that among the emerging startup community.
So we teamed up with ESB this year to find one truly outstanding Irish startup with our ESB Spark of Genius competition.
With applications piling up, the candidates were whittled down to a very exciting bunch of 30 who all pitched back in September in front of a panel of expert judges. That led to our 3 finallists being chosen, and from them we now have our winner – Love & Robots!
Love & Robots are a 3-D printing company based in Dublin who specialise in custom printing using unusual materials like silver and gold. At this point they have already raised $1 million in funding and according to CEO Emer O’Daly they are number 4 in the custom 3-D printing market.
They beat stiff competition in Restored Hearing and TenderScout, and they can now claim their €25,000 cash prize and a package of startup services. Commiserations to the losing finalists, but let’s hope Love & Robots will progress even further and put Irish startups even more firmly on the global map.
