Announcing Marcus Segal: Our first EIR + our “Operations Beast”

We’re very excited to welcome Marcus Segal to The Summit as our first Entrepreneur in Residence. Marcus first spoke at The Summit in 2011 about scaling startups as an operations guy. He blew everyone away. Scaling successful startups is something he’s done for 15 years — including two publicly traded tech companies (NASDAQ: ZYNG, EMUS).

Marcus is an all out operations beast. Most recently, he’s been COO of almost everything inside Zynga for over 6.5 years, including COO of Game Studio Operations, COO of Business Operations, and most recently, COO of the Casino Division.  He’s run multiple game studios, internationalisation, payments, community, QA, security, netOps, art, facilities, customer service, production, built new IP…the list goes on and on.

He’s been an advisor, investor and mentor to many of the Valley’s most exciting startups over the last decade. And he’s hoping he’ll find some similar startups not just in Dublin, but around the world over the coming year.

The Summit team are always on the road meeting incredible startups in cities across the planet, and Marcus is going to join us on some of those trips. If you’d like to host Marcus in your city for a talk, dinner or to drop by your office for a chat then email carolyn@thesummit.co. We’re currently planning our summer travel.

Finally, Marcus is a human encyclopaedia for almost everything there is to know about growing a company, and we’re incredibly flattered to have him joining our growing team. That team now includes our new VP of Engineering, JD Fitzgerald, who we announced yesterday.

Welcome Marcus!
