She’s a pro-surfer, model and unapologetic tech enthusiast. And today Anastasia Ashley will be taking to the stage at Sport Summit alongside Dublin GAA footballer Bernard Brogan.

We caught up with her ahead of her visit to gauge her mood about Web Summit:

Why Web Summit?

I love all things web and tech, I was intrigued with all innovators and movers who are going to be at Web Summit. I love to explore things that excite me and tech has been a great motivator in my life and career over the last few years, so I had to come.

When was the first time you heard of Web Summit?

I actually came across it on Twitter, my friend and fellow surfer Nick Bilton was tweeting about it, and I became intrigued and had to come!

Have you ever been to Ireland before? What are you hoping to get out of the week?

I haven’t, this is my first trip! I have traveled all over Europe for the last 10 years, and never have until this week been to Ireland. I’m super excited because there is a great emerging surfing culture within the Irish. I’m hoping to get some great waves up the coast for Surf Summit and also meet tons of new friends at Web Summit. I can’t wait to see the stunning countryside at the Surf Summit and explore Dublin’s famous pubs!

Can you give us a preview of what you will be discussing on stage?

I’ve been in my sport competing for over 20 years now, the change of my industry and also influence of the internet within sports, it’s ever changing, so the web has been a great platform to build your personal brand. The internet also has made me able to meet so maybe different people who have inspired my career in different ways.

What can of role does tech play in your life – particularly your surfing career?

Tech has been a great influence within my surfing career, anything from booking travel last minute, having access to sites like Surfline to check last minute weather and surf reports for travels. Being able to connect with brands directly via social networks and blogs, and also sharing my own personal brand story with my blog, YouTube, and my personal social networks.

Name 3 people you are looking forward to meeting at the event and why.

Paddy Cosgrave – he’s on the top of my personal list of who I’m excited to meet at Web Summit. I love his creativity with entrepreneurship.

Bono – Besides being one of my favorite musicians of all time, he has inspired me with his activist work and
how he has impacted the world with his presence and influence.

Enda Kenny – I’m hoping to get him in the waves at the Surf Summit, I’m ready to rock,

Name 3 things you’d like to achieve in the next 12 months.

1. I would love to surf somewhere exotic and out of my element that’s never been surfed before.
2. Thinking I need to do a collab with a tech brand.
3. Doing more LIVE web content for surf online, maybe a personal live feed of a super session!
