The Rise of the East: 5 US Accelerators making waves

When the words ‘Tech’ and ‘US’ are mentioned in the same sentence people often immediately associate it with Silicon Valley and the West Coast. But the tech industry is thriving countrywide and nowhere more so then the East Coast, where major cities are investing in people, ideas and startups like never before. Here are just 5 examples of accelerators that are helping turn ideas into companies.

DreamIT Ventures – Philadelphia, New York

The DreamIt Founders designed DreamIt’s accelerator programs to include what they wish they had when they started and sold their first companies. On starting each company receives $25,000 in funding,  as well as coaching, connections, mentors and challenges as they set out on a 3 month path to evolve their idea into a product or service.

ERA Accelerator – New York

Located in the heart of New York City, Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator (ERA) provides participant companies with an intensive four-month program with the goal of helping early-stage companies progress rapidly into exciting, viable businesses. Each accepted company receives an initial $40,000 investment and the potential for follow-on funding from ERA’s Fund. They also receive free collaborative co-working space in New York City, access to UI gurus and other product experts, as well as exposure to leading NYC investors.

Mass Challenge – Boston

The Mass Challenge Accelerator program welcomed over 1,600 startups in 2014- culminating in an exciting pool of 128 finalists with great breakthrough ideas. 489 Alumni from the program have gone on to raise a collective $554.2m, created 4,051 jobs and generated $350m+ revenue. Interestingly also – 84.3% of the companies are still active, with an average company funding of $1,133,000. The stats don’t lie.

NYC Seed Start – New York

NYC SeedStart is an intensive, 12 week program based in NYC and designed to help entrepreneurs focused on the next-generation of enterprise (B2B) software to launch new ventures. SeedStart’s team combines partners from leading enterprise focused VC firms with top enterprise software companies and support from the governor’s office.
